Hydraulic Drum Brake to Electric Drum Brake Conversion for 8-247 Hubs

Question:

To convert your 8-247 Dexter hubs # 84546UC3 from hydraulic to electric, you can simply use the same hubs if they are in good shape. If you don't need to replace them, I recommend updating the bearings and seal since you have them apart. For your inner bearing you want # L68149, for your outer bearing # L44649, and then grease seal # 58846. Then for the brake assemblies, I recommend the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3.5K # 23-468-469 which will mount to the axle flange and fit the hubs perfectly. Then you will connect one of the brake magnet wires to ground on the frame, and run the other end to the trailer coupler using # 10-1-1 sold by the foot. Then I recommend using the Epicord 7-Way Molded Trailer Plug with Junction Box - 10' Long # 277-000141 with ring terminal # 44-5310A for the clean connections. If you don't already have a brake controller for your vehicle I'd be happy to help. For example the Prodigy P3 # 90195 is a customer favorite that you may want to consider.

For your wiring, you will use the attached diagram to assist with the wiring of your electric brakes. That brake wire is normally # 10-1-1 sold by the foot. Then you can use the heat shrink butt connectors # DW05745-10. I've attached a couple of articles to assist and also recommend adding a breakaway kit like # 20099. I've attached an article to help with this as well. I've also attached that diagram to assist.
