Replacing a Carrier A/C Unit with an Advent Air A/C Unit
Question:
I am looking at purchasing a new AC unit to replace my Carrier AIRV unit that has failed. After researching several units seem to be able to interchange. Some units are not available until May for delivery. Will the ACM150 or ACM135 aithe the ACCOLKIT do the interchange and use my ceiling unit? I do not have any wall mounted thermostats or controls only remotes, This is the rear unit, do you think that I should purchase the 13500 or the 15000

The Advent Air Rooftop RV Air Conditioner part # ACM135 for 13,500 Btu's or part # ACM150 for 15,000 Btu's are both available and ready for purchase. The Coleman Adapter Kit part # ACCOLKIT that you referenced is for Coleman units so it will not be needed to replace your Carrier. However, both of the above kits come with everything that is needed anyhow. The adapter kit is more or less to retain your wall thermostat which you said you do not have. There are no Advent to Carrier adapter kits available as one is not needed.
I do however recommend you take a look at the Start Capacitor for Advent Air RV Air Conditioners part # ACMSCKIT if you will ever be using your unit with a generator as it greatly reduces the watts required to start the unit which is often more than most people realize. If you don't have the start capacitor then the 13,500 Btu unit unit will require 5,807 watts upon startup but if you do have it then it will only require 3,000 watts. This means you can use a more cost effective generator to run the unit while not hooked up to shore power.
In regards to the correct size needed, I recommend just replacing the unit with the same size that came on the RV.
The correct size air conditioner for your RV is going to depend of several factors such as square footage, ambient temperature, number of rooms, etc which is why it is hard to choose the perfect size. If your RV did not come with a unit from the factory then it won't hurt to go with the larger 15,000 Btu unit.
