Recommendation for Carrying Bikes on 2015 Mercedes-Benz GL450 with Active Curve System

Question:

I have a 2015 Mercedes GL-450 with the Active Curve System, which I understand places a bar that is in the way of a Class III hitch. More specifically, where a Class III hitch mounts closer to the axle. I dont want to tow, but I do want to carry bikes without having to wrestle them to the roof. A Class I hitch only mounts near the bumper and if I understand it correctly, the ACS bar would not interfere with that installation. Is there a Class I hitch that would bolt into place for this vehicle and if why not, can you explain why? Thank you in advance.

There is not a Class I trailer hitch receiver confirmed to fit your vehicle from any of our manufacturers. As you stated the Class III # C13190 will also not fit due to the Active Curve System, so there is not a hitch option for you at this time.

The only options we have that aren't roof mounted are the SeaSucker Hornet # 298-BH1302 or the SeaSucker Komodo # 298-BK1910-BK.

I know it isn't convenient to lift your bikes to your roof, but it in my opinion is the best option for you for the price. I recommend the Malone AirFlow2 Roof Rack - Aero Crossbars - Raised, Factory Side Rails - Aluminum - 50" Long # MPG215 and then using the Malone Pilot TC ST Roof Bike Rack - Wheel Mount - Clamp On - Aluminum # MPG2103.
