Kit to Upgrade Trailers 4-Way to 7-Way to Wire up Electric Brakes
Question:
Two questions actually. My trainer currently has hydraulic surge brakes. Question 1: If I convert to electric brakes I know the backing plates are replaced. Can I use the same drums? Question 2: I know I would have to convert the 4 pin flat connector to the 7 pin round. Can I get the 7 wire cable by the foot to simplify the conversion?

Your current drums will work fine with a set of electric assemblies installed instead of the hydraulic ones you have now. We actually have a kit designed to upgrade a trailer's 4-way wiring to a 7-way. For that you'd want the part # HS381-9000. From the brake output pin of the included junction box you'd run 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 (sold by the foot) to the brake assemblies.
I attached a picture on how trailer brakes are typically wired up. Either wire of the brake assemblies can be used as the positive or ground as long as the other is grounded to the trailer frame.
Let me know what size brake drums you have now and I'll find you the correct brake assemblies. The part # 23-26-27 fits 10 inch diameter assemblies.
