According to the owner's manual for a 2016 Subaru Forester, tire chains cannot be used because of the lack of clearance between the tires and vehicle body. However, I understand there are certain situations in which they must be used therefore I suggest placing them on all four tires. The reason for this is because your vehicle is all-wheel drive and generally speaking tire chains need to be placed on the drive axle.
The Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains part # PW1038 that you referenced are not a fit for your 225/55-18 tires. Instead, you would need to use the Glacier Cable Snow Tire Chains part # PW1042 which are a fit. These are also class s compatible so they are actually ideal for vehicles with limited wheel well clearance like your Forester. It is recommend that you use the Glacier Multi-Arm Rubber Adjusters part # PW105 as well to make sure the tire cables stay properly seated on the tires.
I have attached review videos for you.
