Installing Trailer Brake Controller on 2018 Chevy Equinox with Factory 7-Way Connector
Question:
Hi, so for the install on a 2018 chevy equinox, do I need to run a wire all the way back to the 7 way plug or is there a electric brake wire inside the dash? the wire schematic looks like you run a wire back to the 7 way . thanks!

If your 2018 Chevy Equinox is equipped with the factory 7-Way connector, then you will indeed need to run the blue brake output wire from the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Brake Controller # 90195 that you're looking at (great choice) to the 7-Way. To do this I recommend using the Wiring Kit # 5506, which includes 25 feet of duplex wire along with the needed circuit breakers.
On the brake controller itself the red wire will go to the cold side of the stop light switch beneath the brake pedal in your Equinox. This is the wire that ONLY receives power with the brake pedal depressed and no power with any other function. I recommend using a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to verify the correct wire.
The black wire will go to the positive terminal of your battery via the circuit breaker included with the above-mentioned wiring kit, the blue wire goes to the 7-Way as mentioned, and the white wire goes to the negative terminal of the battery for ground.
I have attached the wiring diagram that you referenced along with an article on brake controller installations that you might also find helpful.
