Power Requirement for DL25215 Electric Winch
Question:
Will the positive accessory pin on the 7 pin trailer connector provide enough power for the DL25215 winch. It has a isolator solenoid inline. I use it to keep my truck camper batteries charged. I also would like to be able to use other tow vehicles and dont want to have the included harness hard wired to one rig.

Expert Reply:
The 7-way 12V connection will not provide enough power for the Dutton-Lainson StrongArm Electric Winch - Marine - 9,000 lbs # DL25215. The 12 volt pin will only provide approximately 2-4 amps on average when the vehicle is running, and that is why the 25 foot power wire with 8 foot ground is provided with this winch. It will allow you to easily connect to your tow vehicle battery directly or connect to a trailer battery.
