Tips For Routing the Trailer Wiring Power Wire to the Battery on a 2011 Kia Sorento
Question:
Received order containing C13073 hitch, C56332 Curt harness, 20036 4 pole to 5 pole adapter, TR 20046 Mounting bracket for 2011 Kia Sorento LX V6. Everything is just fine, your instructions were good and installation went very well up to the point of running the long power wire to the battery. I have no clue how to run this wire all the way to the engine compartment. Do you have any tips, experiences, anything reported to you that would help?? Thanks for whatever you can come up with.

Routing a power wire to the battery does come up from time to time. I do have a few methods for you and you can determine which one best suits your needs.
The first method is probably the easiest and least time consuming. What you will do is connect the long wire to the power wire on the convert box. From there, you can follow along the frame rail and you will probably see other wiring harnesses going from the front to back. You can follow along one of these, using the zip ties to hold the wire to the existing harness, until you reach the front. From there, you can straighten a coat hanger and route it down through the engine compartment to the underside of the vehicle, tie the wire to the end, and then pull it up from the top. Make the connection to the battery per the instructions and you will be done.
The next method does not work for everyone depending on the vehicle. You will need to route the wire through the frame rail. Some times this requires going in and out of the frame if there are obstructions. To accomplish this you will need to tie off the wire to a long and rigid item, like a coat hanger straightened out, and pull it through the frame rails until you reach the front of the vehicle.
The third method is to route the wire through the vehicle instead of on the outside. This is probably the most tricky and may require additional wire because there are a lot of twists and turns. First you would route the wire into the vehicle. From there you would need to tuck the wire under trim panels, under seats, or basically anyway that you can towards the front. You would then route the wire through the firewall and to the battery. This method can potentially require the removal of trim panels or other components as you route the wire to hide it.
No matter which method you choose, make sure that you avoid any areas that may pinch or burn the wire such as suspension or exhaust components. I have attached the installation details for reference.
I've linked you to an install video, as well as to a help article we developed to help folks through the process of routing that power wire.
