Redarc Tow Pro Elite Brake Controller Installation in 2018 Toyota Highlander XLT with Tow Package
Question:
I have a 2018 Toyota Highlander XLT, factory towing package, and the Redarc 331-EBRH-ACCV2 Tow Pro Elite. What wire colors will I use for connection to the factory 4-wire setup? Is a diode needed for the brake light wire to prevent back-feed into the vehicle from the Tow Pro brake light control in manual mode? Thanks.

Tekonsha, one of our brake controller resources, has told us that a diode like # RM-690 is needed on the 2018 Higlander brake light circuit to prevent the controller from backfeeding onto the vehicle wiring. The side labelled "in" goes to the vehicle wire.
Connection of your Redarc, like any other trailer brake controller, will be as follows:
Controller RED to COLD side of brake light switch (via the diode). Use a tester like # PTW2992 to help you find the wire that goes hot only when the pedal is pressed. BLACK to battery via circuit breaker. WHITE to ground (or battery negative terminal). BLUE to 7-way for trailer.
