Can Passenger Car Wheels be Used on a Trailer

Question:

I have a utility trailer with 2 P195/75R15 tires on it. They are on Buick car rims can the rims be used with trailer tires or will they need to be changed also. What would you recommend as a replacement trailer tire?

There aren't really any rules for using wheels designed for passenger vehicles on a trailer like there are for tires but by the time you have the old tires dismounted and the new tires mounted/balanced, it will end up being more cost effective to just replace both the wheel/tire together. For this, I recommend a ST205/75-15 as this is going to be the closest option we have to the P195/75-15 tires that you have now.

In order to recommend an exact wheel/tire combo for you I would need to know what your bolt pattern is in addition to the weight of the trailer. If you don't know what bolt pattern you have then you can take a look at the attached help article. For example, the Karrier ST205/75R15 Radial Trailer Tire with 15" White Wheel part # AM32395 has a 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern and is suited for trailers up to 3,640 lbs.

If this will not work for you then I have attached a list of our wheel/tire combos in the above size.
