Can You Back Up a Trailer with a Weight Distribution System Like Fastway e2 Engaged?
Question:
It is claimed that one can back up with the FA92-00-0450 hitch. Is this really the case? I always thought that one could not back up with weight distribution anti-sway hitches because of possible damage to the tongue/hitch, especially when cornering as often required when backing in to a spot in an RV park. Why is the FA92-00-0450 different in this regard? Thanks.

The Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control # FA92-00-0450 does allow backing up when installed. Many of the systems from various manufacturers allow this on the systems that don't simply utilize the hanger and chain style bars. The older style systems like that do not allow backing with the system installed because the bars will not track with the trailer frame in the same way. The friction sway control systems also do not allow backing up with the friction bar engaged as it can torque and bend that bar.
The systems with 2 or 4 point sway control like the Fastway system will allow backing up with the system installed. You still will want to be careful not to jackknife your trailer when backing in, but you can utilize this style system to back up your trailer without any additional steps required.
I've attached a couple articles and videos to assist.
