Troubleshooting Bent Pin on Trailer Side 7-Way Connector

Question:

Hi, I have a 2017 keystone passport travel trailer. When it is hooked up to my truck here lately it will say trailer connected, and then say trailer disconnected. And keeps going back and forth. I looked at my trailer plug and it has a pin that looks like it has been pushed down and maybe not making a good connection. Sometimes its ok but its getting to be more frequent with it messing up. I was thinking that I need to replace the plug on the trailer. What do you think and can you tell me which one I need that will work for me? I have included a picture of my trailer plug and my truck connector. Thanks

It does look like one of the pins on your existing 7-Way may have been bent back into the connector. This isn't too uncommon and it would definitely cause the intermittent connection issues you have been having. If you aren't able to bend back the pin in question so that it can make good contact with the vehicle-side connector then your best option is indeed to simply replace the 7-Way.

For this the Pollak # PK12706 will work well. You will just need to cut off your existing connector and hardwire the trailer wiring into the new one. I have attached an image that may help with wiring in the new unit. Just note that you will want to pay attention to the wire function on the diagram and not necessarily their color, as it's possible that your trailer uses different color wiring.
