Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch for 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 With Turning Point Pin Box
Question:
Will the Companion system work on 2017 GMC Sierra 5 foot 8 inch short bed? The use of the fifth wheel hitch will be with a Grand Design Reflection 150 Turning Point pin box system. Im trying to avoid having to install a rail fifth wheel hitch system.

I can understand not wanting to put rails in your 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 but the B&W Companion cannot be used with a Turning Point pin box (or any rotating pin box like the Sidewinder) when mounting it with the Turnoverball Underbed Installation Kit. I have cut out a portion of the manual from the Companion # BWRVK3500 you referenced which explains this.
As much as you would like to avoid using rails in your truck you will need to but the good news is that there is a custom installation kit, the Reese Quick-Install Custom Installation Kit w/ Base Rails # RP50064-58 that you can install in your '17 Sierra 1500 that will not require drilling into the truck's frame rails to install.
For a fifth wheel hitch I highly recommend the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch # RP30928 with the # RP44FR wedge kit; this hitch uses a single, self-latching jaw which will ensure optimal connection to your king pin, has a 4-way pivoting head to make hooking up your fifth wheel trailer a simpler process, and offers a height adjustment between 14" and 18".
I've added links to video reviews for you to check out as well.
