Does the Light on the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller Only Come on When a Trailer Is Connected
Question:
I just installed this controller on my 2008 Toyota Tundra. Shouldnt it light up even if there is no trailer hooked up? I dont have a trailer with me at this time to check it. I hook it up to go get my dads trailer and not sure if it will work. every controller i ever had it would light up any time i press the brake with or without trailer hooked up.

You will need to have a trailer connected to the truck in order for the green light to come on on the Tekonsha Voyager Brake Controller, # 39510. You may see a light blink when you step on the brakes or use the manual override also and no trailer connected.
To properly set up the controller, you will want to connect a trailer and then follow the set up steps in the instructions that I have linked for you.
If your 2008 Toyota Tundra came with a factory 7-Way trailer connector and you used the brake controller wiring harness, # 3040-P to install the brake controller, make sure that you have attached the separate white ground wire on the harness to a bare metal surface. It comes with this extra ground because the Toyota ground is insufficient for the brake controller.
If you hardwired in the controller, the best and recommended location for the ground is the negative battery terminal.
