Is a Converter Box Required on a 2006 Land Rover LR3

Question:

I’m confused about the wiring on my 2006 Land Rover LR3. I want to splice it myself, without a harness because I’m cheap, and I thought it’d be easy. I was wrong. I’m using a 4 pin flat connector, but I don’t really understand the amber running lights works. Yellow, green and white all make sense and all work. But I don’t have running lights. If I connect my brown wire to constant power my signal lights fail. What am I missing? I should probably just buy a harness.

There are two reasons you need to use a wiring harness with a powered converter box on your 2006 Land Rover LR3 which are power and configuration. The electrical circuit on your LR3 is not equipped to handle the additional power draw the trailer lights will have on the system which will cause the fuses to blow. The powered converter box draws power from the battery for the trailer lights which eliminates power draw on the vehicle's electrical circuits. The other reason is that your LR3 has separate brake and turn signals and the 4-way wiring harness will require them to be combined which is done through the use of the converter box.

Therefore, for your LR3 I recommend the 2006 Land Rover LR3 Hopkins Active Tail Light Converter with Install Kit part # 46255 which is currently the most cost effective option we have for you. You will need to test each of the wires behind your tail light housing in order to find the correct circuits.
