Troubleshooting Trailer Wiring Where Stoplights Prevent Blinkers from Working
Question:
I have a 7 pin plug on my trailer. I probably could use a 4 way plug because I don’t have electric brakes it ha air breaks but the 7 pin plug has been Instaled since new so I’d rather not switch it. I can get both sides left and right sides to flash correctly with the turn signals when the stop wire is not attached to the light. The stop lights same lights also work correctly when the brake peddle is applied and no turn signal is on. However as soon as I hook themboth the turn and break wire up to the same wire black wire on back of the light, and I know the white is ground, red is typically running on the back of the light both side blink with either turn signal. How do I only have one side blink when the turn signal is on and sill have the break lights hook up? And my grounds are good, I double and triple checked.

Sounds like you are trying to use a separate style of taillight wiring to operate a combined style of wiring. What you need is a signal converter like the # RM-732 to convert the signal the correct style so that you can get the brake lights and the turn signals on the same circuit for your trailer wiring. This will allow the brake lights to be on and still have your blinkers work like you need.
