In order to install a brake controller on your 1999 Dodge Ram Pickup I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P2 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90885. This is a proportional brake controller that senses the inertia of the tow vehicle then applies that same force to the trailer. It is also one of our most popular options because of its integrated safeguards that work to protect both the vehicle/trailer and its continuous diagnostics checks for safety.
If your Ram came with either a factory 4-way or factory 7-way trailer connector then you can use the Tekonsha Plug-In Wiring Adapter for Electric Brake Controllers part # 3020-P to install the brake controller but if your Ram did not come with either a factory 4-way or factory 7-way trailer connector then you will want to use the Wiring Kit part # 5506 instead.
I have attached a review an install video of the brake controller for you as well. There is also a help article you may find useful which I have also attached.
