Lightweight Ramps for Help with Loading Animals Into an SUV

Question:

I have an aging greyhound dog approximately 80 lbs. that is having difficulty jumping into the back of my Lexus LX470. He doesnt like to be picked up either. I have searched all over for pet ramps, but none of them seem to be sturdy enough or inviting for him to use. The part # FHG77ZR seems like it could work, except for the weight - I read it weighs 80 lbs. I am looking for: - a lighter weight solution. I am no spring chicken and dont want to be lifting more than 40 lbs every day. - folding ramp would be preferred, but a step flat cargo storage solution may also work for the near term. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

The Flint Hill Goods 30x50 Cargo Carrier part # FHG77ZR that you referenced does weigh 80 pounds. Unfortunately, all of the cargo carriers we offer with a built-in ramp are going to exceed the 40 lb limit you referred to. However, we do have one carrier that is close. Check out the Flint Hill Goods # FHG67ZR. It is made of aluminum and has a 500- pound capacity. It weighs 54.5 pounds and has a 40" long ramp. This ramp is shorter than the other 48" ramps or even 60" ramps, so you would have to determine if the shorter length makes it too steep for your application. It also has slats that are spread farther apart, would this be okay for your application? Once you had this carrier installed, you would no longer need to lift it. You would just unfold it and lower the ramp.

You could also look at the Erickson Arched Loading Ramp Set part # EM07435. These ramps are both 72" long, weigh around 20 lbs each, and can be folded three times into a compact rectangle. They will also be much more cost effective than the Curt carrier. If you placed both ramps side by side, I do believe they would be inviting enough for your aging greyhound.

I have attached a photo of the ramps attached to the back of a similar SUV for you as well.
