Surfboard Carrier Options for 2016 Ford Fusion

Question:

Hi - Im considering the Rhino-Rack RS2500 roof rack for my 16 Fusion. The purpose would be to transport a couple of surfboards. I was wondering what straps/tie-downs or other accessories you suggest for use with this specific rack. Thanks!

To transport your two surf boards on an Aero style roof rack like the Rhino-Rack 2500-Series racks, shown on the linked page along with all options for your Fusion, I suggest using one of the pad or block style surf board carriers shown on the other linked page.

As an example, Rhino-Rack offers their pad and tie-down kit # RRRWP05 which includes a set of two 33-1/2-inch long crossbar pads along with tie downs. Other sizes are offered too and similar products are available from Thule, Yakima and others if you have another brand preference.

We also have foam block type carriers like the Malone Deluxe # MPG152 which fits the Vortex bars or that can be used all on its own if you are not travelling great distances on the highway. If your surfing is nearby you could skip the roof rack altogether unless you need it for other purposes such as a cargo basket like # RMCB.

Another really unique option comes from the folks at SeaSucker. The SeaSucker Surfboard Carrier # 298-BX1806 uses high-strength vacuum cups with extraordinary holding power (please check out the video I linked) to secure this padded carrier to your Fusion's bare roof. No roof rack is required and it is easy to remove the carrier to lock it safely while you're hanging ten. Nylon cam-buckle tie-down straps are included.

The real beauty of the USA-made SeaSucker system is that you can use it on your roof, trunk or any location on any vehicle where you need it. It can stay with you and your boards and go on your next vehicle for as long as you're hitting the surf.
