Replacement Hitch Pin and Tether for a Yakima RidgeBack 2 Bike Rack Part # Y02457
Question:
I was attaching my bike rack to my vehicle to pick my bike up form the shop tomorrow and the wire connecting the pin had rusted and came off the rack :- I plan to get a replacement, but is it SAFE to use without it?? Or, I should say a broken one? I still put the pin in and tightened it as much as possible and locked it, but Im still worried and have no other way to pick up my bike 40 miles into the City and 40 miles home driving at 80 mph???? Please let me know as soon as possible. Thank you

The wire that attaches the hitch pin to your Yakima RidgeBack 2 Bike Rack part # Y02457 is called a tether and only has one purpose which is to make sure the hitch pin does not get lost or stolen. It has no bearing on the security of the hitch pin inside the receiver so you should have no worries with your hitch pin falling out. The small ball at the end of the hitch pin is however a tad bit more important which I recommend checking. We do not sell the tether separately but you can buy both the tether and hitch pin using part # 889-0231 which I recommend doing if the parts are starting to rust and corrode as this could have an effect on the small ball at the end.
