How to Wire a Hopkins 7-Way Trailer Connector # H20046 1987 Layton RV Trailer
Question:
all the wire colors are in different spots

There are standard colors for trailer wiring, but not everyone will follow those guidelines and since your trailer is older it is likely that the colors are different.
The best way to wire up your trailer with this 7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector # H20046 would be to test all the functions of the wiring on your trailer and then wire the # H20046 to it by function.
I attached a review video for this product and an FAQ on trailer wiring for you to check out.
I also attached a picture of a wiring chart for the # H20046 for you to check out that might be helpful.
