Troubleshooting Trailer Sway with 30' Trailer While Using the Curt TruTrack # C17500
Question:
I have the TRUTRACK TRUNNION BAR WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM #17500 towing a 30 foot travel trailer. Ive had this adjusted a few times at the dealer because of sway. Im still experiencing enough sway that makes it uncomfortable to tow for my liking. My question is would it be possible to install a sway bar to this hitch for added safety and comfortably towing? I know its not set up for one but the kits come with the bracket that could be welded to the head. Im only asking because my previous travel trailer had a hitch with the separate sway bar control and I didnt experience near the sway I do with this hitch.

From what you are describing it sounds like the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System (WD) # C17500 isn't rated properly for your 30' trailer. If your WD system is rated too high then it can cause your towing experience to be too stiff while a system that is underrated will not be effective at all.
You need a WD system with a Tongue Weight (TW) range that the Total Tongue Weight (TTW) of your towing setup falls in the middle of. To find the TTW of your towing setup you will need to add the TW of your fully loaded and ready-to-go trailer along with the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. Keep in mind that a properly loaded trailer will have a TW that is 10-15% of the loaded weight of your trailer.
The TW range of your TruTrack system is 800 lbs - 1,000 lbs. Check the TW of your trailer and add that to the weight of the cargo behind the rear axle of your tow vehicle. If it isn't within this range then you need a different WD system. Let me know what your TTW is and I can make a different recommendation.
