Expert Reply:

We have two basic types of hitch for 5th wheel RVs, bumper-mount and frame-mount. All examples of both types are shown on the two linked pages.

Generally a frame-mount hitch can offer a higher weight rating than a bumper-mount type; and note too that the RV's bumper must be specifically rated for use with a hitch. The best way to go is to check with the RV maker (using its VIN) to confirm whether or not they consider the bumper suitable for hitch installation (and also how much weight it can handle) or if they feel the frame-mount option is preferred on your particular trailer.

The highest-rated frame-mount options are the Curt # C13701 and the similar # C13702. Both fit frame widths from 18- to 51-inches. Part # C13701 offers a receiver tube with 2-inches of drop which can fit better on RVs that have rear trim panels that would otherwise block the hitch tube.
