Would Moving Companion Hitch Head Forward or Back Help with Bed Rail Clearance

Question:

Im having issues with my truck bed rails hitting the underside of 5th wheel when backing in my drive. Have a 8 foot bed gmc 1ton with a companion hitch. Have 6-7 inch clearance on rails to camper. I have rom to move 2 more inches eithe front or back to go ahead of axle or behind axle. Would moving it forward creating a shorter wheelbase to the camper axle help my issue or make it worse? Having trouble wrapping my head around moving forward or backwards to help.

Moving the hitch back in the bed of your truck would give you better clearance between the bed rails of the truck and the overhang of the trailer. It might not make a huge difference but it would help slightly. If you could raise the hitch height slightly while still allowing the trailer to sit level that would also help quite a bit.
