As long as you do not exceed the 15,000 lb gross trailer weight (GTW) and 1,500 lb tongue weight (TW) rating of the Curt Weight Distribution Shank part # C17122 then you should have no problems switching from a 9" long shank to a 14" long shank. This particular shank has a large steel gusset welded between the two pieces which allows it to have a longer extension without sacrificing weight capacity.
