Recommended Hitch Receiver Installation or Replacement for 2011 Ram 1500

Question:

I purchased a class 3 receiver hitch for my 2011 ram 1500 a couple years ago and I recently started pulling a camper with a weight distribution system and when I hook the camper up the top bolt that goes through the bumper sticks up, I was wondering if there was a spacer im missing to eliminate this issue or do I need a different system

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 13333 is the hitch you have as I looked it up from your email address. There is not a spacer needed and this hitch is rated for 1000 lbs tongue weight when using weight distribution. It sounds like you either have too heavy a trailer for this hitch or you need to re-torque the bolts on your hitch to spec. I've attached the installation details as well as a video to assist.

If you determine you want a stronger hitch without that bolt through the bumper, then I recommend the Draw-Tite Ultra Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 41948. This hitch is rated for 1500 lb tongue weight when used with weight distribution. This will give you a more secure connection and keep your 2 inch receiver opening but giving you a class V rated hitch.

You will also need a product like part # PC3, part # e98880, or part # 63232 to secure the extender in your 2" trailer hitch receiver.

Your current issue is most likely due to your weight distribution system having excessive tension or not being set up properly. I've attached an article to assist.
