Selecting Weight Distribution System for Horse Trailer
Question:
Hello, Im seeking help picking out a WD or Sway bar system for my truck and horse trailer. I had to tow in very high winds last night and while my trailer didnt wag the dog the entire rig was buffeted about and Im hoping a system would even things out in an emergency. The tongue of my trailer is very short and solid and Id like to make sure I get the right system. Tongue weight approx 600lbs. I can send pictures of my rig.

Most weight distribution/sway control systems such as the Equal-i-zer # EQ37100ET require that the frame-mounted spring bar brackets be positioned within a specific distance range from the center of the hitch ball. This particular system's frame brackets need to mount from 27- to 32-inches back fro the hitch ball. They work on frames up to 6-inches tall. The brackets are about 2-inches wide, please note.
In cases where the frame dimensions or limited frame access prevent using such clamp-on brackets other systems like the Reese Strait-Line # RP66084 can use bolt-on hangers # RP58305 in place of the supplied brackets.
Please send us photos of your trailer's tongue area and some dimensions and we can recommend system for your tongue weight. The key to selecting the right system is knowing the actual fully-loaded trailer tongue weight by measuring it with scale # e99044. You can also refer to the linked article for more general info.
