How to Install the Curt Support Strap Part # 18050 on a Smart Fortwo with Platform Style Bike Rack
Question:
I purchased a CURT hitch for my 2014 Smart Fortwo Electric Drive # C11020, and it mentions that it requires the use of stabilizing straps #18050 with all non-trailer accessories such as bike racks - I noticed in other questions you provided a video that shows how to install these straps when using a bike rack, however how would this install on a Smart with using a tray style hitch rack? Thanks!

You are correct that the Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap part # 18050 will be required for all non-towing applications in order to honor the warranty of the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11020 on your 2014 Smart Fortwo. As far as installation goes, this will really depend on the bike rack and vehicle it is used on. There is not a specific point on the rack or vehicle that the strap will need to be attached to but I recommend wrapping the strap around the center section of the platform rack where the upright hook mounts and then to either the bottom or top of the hatch on your Smart Fortwo using the included car clip. I have attached a few photos to assist.
