5-Way Adapter Recommendation to Allow Trailer with Surge Brakes Backup
Question:
Have always just plugged in the 5 pole connector from the trailer into the 4 pole receiver on the Pathfinder. Had difficulty backing up inclines brakes didnt seem to fully release but everything else seemed to work fine. Last trip out the brakes were would not release at all. Couldnt move forward without disconnecting hydraulic brake line and draining fluid from trailer. Would adding the 5th pole to the Pathfinder connector solve this issue with the trailer brakes releasing?

Expert Reply:
Yes, you definitely need a 4-way to 5-way adapter installed on your Pathfinder like part # 20036. With this installed the reverse lockout solenoid of the actuator will be able to prevent your brakes from locking up when you go to back up.
The blue wire needs to be ran to the reverse light circuit of your vehicle's interior.
