4 Wire Flat to 5 Wire Flat Adapter Recommendation for Towing a Trailer with Surge Brakes

Question:

We recently purchased a boat with a brake-assist trailer. Our truck, a 2000 Toyota Tundra, has what I believe to be a 4 wire flat. Our boat has a 5 wire plug. Would adapter #20036 work for the Tundra? If so, I assume I would wire the adapter to the reverse light wire. If so, I assume I would use the splice connector to connect to the red wire with blue line. I tried unsuccessfully to attach photos of the 4 wire flat on the truck, the 5 wire plug on the boat, and the reverse light wire. I would be glad to send them via email. Any and all advice would be appreciated very much.

You are totally on the right track. The Adapter 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036 that you referenced would be the correct part to use to convert your 4-way to a 5-way to activate the reverse lockout solenoid of your trailer with surge brakes.

You would install it exactly like how you described by locating your reverse light circuit and then using the included quick-splice connector to tap the blue wire from the # 20036 into it.

Your pictures did make it through also and thank for them as it makes my job easier!

I attached an install video for this product for you to check out also.
