I do have a solution for you, but the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C15324 that you referenced is a custom fit that fits various Chevy, Cadillac, and GMC vehicles and is not meant to be modified for use on your 1997 Freightliner XC Series.

If you are looking for a trailer hitch with a high weight capacity then the highest we have are the Curt adjustable trailer hitches part # C13701 and part # C13702. These will fit RVs that have a frame that is 18" - 51" wide and they feature a 5,000 lb Gross Towing Weight (GTW) and a 500 lbs Tongue Weight (TW). When used with a Weight Distribution (WD) system those ratings are increased to 6,000 lbs GTW and 600 lbs TW.

Please note that even though these have a weight rating, if your 1997 Freightliner XC Series has a lower weight rating then that will be your limiting factor.
