Universal Hardwire Trailer Wiring Harness Blowing Fuses on 2011 Ford Escape
Question:
I have a CURT 4 prong wiring harness for a 2011 Ford Escape AWD V6 with no towing package or backup sensors. I believe it was a older model that you dont sell anymore that did not have the quick connect plugs for the tail lamps to make it no splice. I have ran it 2 years no issues until today. I continue to blow a fuse. Car off, no trailer hooked up, every new fuse i install is blowing instantly. NO TRAILER HOOKED UP. This is telling me bad converter or short in the converter? I cannot test any plug at the back as there is no power going to the converter since the fuse blows. I have traced the power wire all the way to the back with no issues, frays, corrosion. Traced all taillight wires and no issues as well. If its a bad converter, i will buy this C56329 one but i am trying to make sure. Thanks!

I agree that it does sound like there is a short inside the converter box. You can also check for any of its wires touching bare metal but based on the description of the problem and what you have already checked it does sound like it is internal.
If it were me I would go with Tekonsha harness # 118551 because we hear about fewer problems with them. This is also a powered harness and I do recommend running the new power wire to eliminate the old wiring as a variable in the malfunction of your existing harness.
