Using a Hitch Extender for a Cargo Carrier on a 2015 Roadtrek

Question:

I have a 2015 roadtrek with the spare tire mounted on the back. I want to use my 60 inch mesh wire carrier but I need to extend out from the hitch. Will a hitch extender work for me

Technically speaking, a hitch extender like the Curt part # C45791 will fit. However, using an extender lowers your hitche's tongue weight by 50 percent so you will be limited on how much weight you carry. In addition to this, accessories on the back of an RV experience a lot more movement and therefore stress than normal. So not only will your weight capacity be lowered but you're also are going to experience a lot of movement on the hitch. So I don't recommend using an extender for your carrier. Even with your RV being on a van chassis.

I recommend getting a different carrier that has a longer shank that extends far enough to clear the spare tire or towing a small trailer.
