Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver to Replace Factory Hitch on 2013 Ford Escape
Question:
Hi there. Love the site. Very helpful. I went through the FAQs and I dont think I saw this specific question asked: I have a factory tow hitch installed on my 2013 Escape. I would like to replace it with this Draw-Tite product. However I am uncertain as to what impact this will have on the existing wiring that came with the factory install. 1. Do I need to remove the wiring in order to do the install? 2. Can I continue to use the existing wiring? Or is the factory wiring incompatible with this new hitch? 3. If Im only planning on using this hitch for carrier purposes rather than towing, does this make things easier for my install? Apologies if this has already been answered. Sincerely

Expert Reply:
The Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75758 is not compatible with the factory class II towing package. For your 2013 Ford Escape, you will instead want to use hitch # 75782.
The current wiring will be compatible with this hitch and you will not need to remove it for install. This hitch will work very well for a cargo carrier, bike rack, or towing if you change your mind on that. You may choose to mount your current wiring to this hitch using # 18144 for a clean look and the hitch bracket is already integrated.
