Is the Curt Trailer Hitch Support Strap Part # 18050 Used to Secure Cargo
Question:
Curt hitch 13703 states all non-trailer loads like bike racks and cargo carriers that are applied to this product must be supported by auxiliary stabilizing straps, which are sold separately does this mean the load must be tied down to the carrier or is there some other support for the hitch?

Expert Reply:
The Adjustable Width Trailer Hitch Receiver part # 13703 like most Curt trailer hitches will indeed require a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 for all non-towing applications. The support strap is designed to be wrapped around the accessory and then secured to the vehicle/trailer as you can see in the attached video. The strap is not designed to secure cargo to the carrier like a ratchet strap or cargo net would.
Please note that bike racks that will be used on the back of an RV or trailer must be approved for this purpose. If you can tell me what you will be using the hitch for I would be glad to provide a recommendation for you.
