I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller # 90195. This brake controller activates trailer brakes in proportion to your Toyota FJ Cruiser's braking action. It automatically adjusts trailer's braking based on deceleration of your tow vehicle. It activates immediately with no pausing like with time-delayed brake controllers.
If your 2012 Toyota FJ Cruiser does not have a 7-way, you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. This kit includes everything you need to install an electric trailer brake controller and 7-way connector.
If there's not an existing 4-way flat on your vehicle, you will need the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118405. This kit will quickly allow you to easily install a 4-way trailer connector on your Toyota FJ Cruiser with this custom wiring harness.
A 4-way connection operates the basic features of the vehicle's left and right turn signal, the power source and the vehicle's tail light circuit. This 4-way connection is sometimes attached to the vehicle, and sometimes it needs to be added. Then the 4-way plugs into the # ETBC7 and it will give you power for the brake controller after it's installed. T-One connector plugs directly into existing wiring. The powered ModuLite reduces strain on wiring system.
I have attached help guides, product review and install video to simplify the process.
