Recommended Helper Springs for 2017 Ram 2500 4WD Towing 5th Wheel with 2,986 lb Tongue Pin Weight

I just purchased a new fifth wheel the tongue weight is 2986 pounds. I purchased the Demco auto sliding hitch from you last week. Should I be adding the Helper Springs airless bags type product? I have a 2017 Ram 2500 4WD.

Although the Demco Hijacker # DM8550034 that you purchased has cushioning polyurethane dampeners to help reduce road shock, adding some helper springs can help to keep your ride more smooth and support your suspension on your 2017 Ram 2500.

If you were to go with the SumoSprings Helper Springs then you would want part # SSR-312-54 which work to keep your vehicle level when you're towing or hauling a heavy load, minimize sway, and absorb bumps and shocks. This is the heavy duty system and is rated for 2,800 lbs.

Since the tongue weight of your 5th wheel trailer alone is heavier than what the rating of the helper springs is for you may want to consider another option.

I recommend going with the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2598. They are compatible with the 5th wheel hitch installed in your Ram 2500 and have a weight rating of 5,000 lbs so they will be much more effective in supporting your suspension.

If you choose to go this route then a compressor system like the Air Command I # F2097 is very useful as you won't have to go searching for an air compressor just to level your ride.

For a compressor system that allows you to adjust the air bags separately from each other you will want to go with the Air Command II # F2219 instead.
