If you do not know what trailer you are going to be towing you can still get a hitch because the trailer will require a ball mount in order to tow. For your 2013 Subaru Legacy I recommend the Draw-Tite # 36493 because the use of stabilizing straps with accessories are not a manufacturer's requirement in order to maintain the warranty like they are with the Curt hitch.
Also, please keep in mind that according to the owner's manual of your 2013 Subaru Legacy the maximum you can tow is 1,000 lbs and that includes the weight of both the trailer and its cargo.
With this hitch the accompanying ball mount is the Draw-Tite # 36071 along with either 1-7/8" hitch ball # 19256 or 2" hitch ball # 19258. To add a 4-way connector which will allow you to use your trailer's lights you need the Wiring Harness # 56091.
