Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver and Bike Rack for 2017 Honda Civic Coupe

Question:

Hitch receiver #C11463 for 2017 Honda Civic Coupe. Im going to use this receiver to attach a bike rack and two bicycles. The description for this receiver states that a stabilizing strap must be used or the warranty is voided. The tongue weight spec is 200 lbs, and Im reasonalby sure that the rack plus two bikes does not approach that limit. I would prefer not to use a strap for the same reasons I choose not to use a strap mounted rack. My question: is there a concern that this rack is not strong enough to support a bike rack and two bikes on its own? Will it break under the stress of a rack and two bikes? Thank you for your help.

The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class I - 1-1/4" # C11463 is a confirmed fit for your 2017 Honda Civic Coupe. The stabilizer strap # 18050 is required by the manufacturer for liability purposes. The hitch itself is very strong, but you will need to use the strap to keep your warranty active.

If you don't already have a Class I rated bike rack, I recommend the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Platform Rack # KU74FR. This bike rack is a wheel mounted rack with the ability to tilt and fold for storage. This rack will weigh about 47 lbs and can carry two bikes up to 40 lbs each, so you will be well under the 200 lb max tongue weight of your trailer hitch.
