What is Needed to Flat-Tow a 1986 Suzuki Samurai

Question:

What all do I need to tow it with my SUV? Also, do I need to remove the front bumper to install a faceplate? Aprox how difficult and how long will it take? Will I need modifications to connect the faceplate with the Tracker? I dont need an auxiliary braking system to go through the states, that Im going to tow through. The Samurai is only 2000 lbs. Thank you so much.

Before you begin purchasing the necessary equipment needed to flat-tow your 1986 Suzuki Samurai, you will want to review the "recreational towing" section of your owner's manual for any certain stipulations when flat towing your vehicle.

In order to flat-tow your 1986 Suzuki Samurai with the Roadmaster Tracker Tow Bar part # RM-020 you will want to use the Roadmaster Classic Base Plate Kit part # 1003-1. As long as you have the crossbar which connects the two arms of the Tracker tow bar together (see photo) and your vehicle has tie downs, then the above base plate kit will work well for you. If you do not have the crossbar then you will need the Replacement Crossbar for Tracker Towbar part # RM-025.

In order to complete your flat towing setup you will also need lights and a possible high-low adapter. I have linked a list of our high-low adapters for you in addition to an article that will help you find the correct one. For the lights I recommend using the Heavy Duty Magnetic Tow Lights part # TL21RK as they are very simple and easy to use.

In regards to installing the above base plate kit on your Samurai, the instructions which are attached state that, " Installation of most mounting brackets requires moderate mechanical aptitude and skills. We strongly recommend professional installation by an experienced installer." With that being said, the front bumper is not required to be removed for installation but may help.
