Recommended Underbed Hitch Option to Use Reese 5th Wheel Hitch on a 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500 HD
Question:
Hi. Im relacing my 2002GMC 2500 hd with a 2018 Chevy 2500 hd. Both are crew cabs with 8 foot beds. I would like to use the fifth wheel hitch from the old truck in the new truck but would like to use an under bed rail. The new truck did not come with the factory rail kit and the hitch is a 16k Reese part #30051. What all do I need to do this? Any other suggestions concerning this project would also be appreciated. Thanks,

There are 2 different options that I have for you to utilize an underbed hitch with an adapter so that you can use your Reese 5th Wheel Hitch # RP30051 in your 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD.
The first option would be to use the Reese Under-Bed Rail and Installation Kit # RP30868 along with the Reese Elite Series Underbed Rail Adapter # RP30156 which will give you industry standard base rail points compatible with your 5th wheel hitch. This option looks very much like the OEM towing package that truck manufacturers offer but it lacks the gooseneck hitch.
The second option is to use the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BWGNRK1016 along with the Demco 5th Wheel Base Rails Adapter # DM6140. Again, the adapter will give you the industry standard base rails for your Reese hitch.
Although the first option is slightly more cost effective, the second option will give you the ability to not only tow 5th wheel trailers, but also tow gooseneck trailers if the need ever arose. B&W is a great company who makes all of their products right here in the USA which is an added bonus.
Aside from that the only other thing that I recommend doing is installing a 7-Way, like the Curt item # C56000, in the bed of your 2018 Chevy if you do not already have one. This will make connecting and disconnecting your trailer much easier.
I have attached some videos for you to check out as well.
