Recommended Electric Trailer Brake Controller for 2018 Chevy Equinox with Factory 7-Way Connector
Question:
I have a 2018 Chevy Equinox with a 2.0 Turbo engine. It is factory wired with a seven pin trailer plug and factory hitch. The brake controller wires are to be somewhere inside the drivers area. The dealer says they have a good idea where they are but they want to unwrap the wiring harnesses under the dash until they find them. I did not let them do that to my new Equinox. Do you people know where the wires for the brake controller are? Or can you find out where they are? If so please recommend a controller for me. Thank you very much.

I reached out to my contacts at both Tekonsha and Curt and they have not confirmed the wiring connections on a 2018 model Chevy Equinox. In previous years, there has not been a direct plug option for a brake controller but there also was not a 7-way factory available. It is very likely that there are wires under the dash that may work, but you would need to use a circuit tester like # PTW2993 to confirm.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195. This brake controller is a proportional controller that will give you the trailer braking at the same time and with the same amount of pressure as you hit the brake pedal in your Equinox. This is a very reliable controller that gives you an LCD screen with easy to understand diagnostics and has no codes that need to be deciphered like most other models. It also has some great preset options to make towing easy. This controller can be wired to your factory dash wiring if present or you can use # 5506 to add wiring to your 7-way trailer connector.
