Ball Mount with a 4 Inch Rise for a 2017 Kia Sportage
Question:
I have the e72TR hitch on my 2017 Sportage. Im wondering what receiver I would need to get to about a 17inch ball height? The hitch seems to be a little hidden under the bumper, so it almost seems like the receiver would need to come out a bit before it rises up. Thats where Im having a problem making the right decision.

Based on the installation video we did for etrailer hitch # e72TR on a 2017 Kia Sportage, see link, the distance from the ground to the top of the receiver opening is 13 inches. This means to get 17 inches you would need a ball mount with 4 inches of rise.
But it also depends on how you are measuring. On the trailer use its jack to make the trailer level. Then measure from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. It is measured this way because the ball fits up inside the coupler and thus you would not measure to the top of the ball. I have linked a help article below explaining the measurements.
If you do need a 4 inch rise then Curt ball mount # D-28 is a great option. And it comes pretty far out so it will not interfere with the rear of the vehicle.
Another option if you will ever be towing a different trailer is to use an adjustable ball mount such as # 3371802225. This adjustable ball mount has a max rise or drop of 6 inches and comes with a 1-7/8 inch ball, 2 inch ball, and 2-5/16 inch ball. I have included links to videos on these ball mounts for you.
