Troubleshooting 4-Way Connector on 2010 Nissan Pathfinder Not Working

Question:

Hello, I have a factory installed tow package on my 2010 pathfinder. the brake lights and turn signals work but the tail/running lights are dead. I had problems with a trailer and used a tester so I am certain that it is on the vehicle side. My question is how do I know where the problem is. Is there anyway to tell if it is the relay that is in the front passenger kick panel or in the harness in the back. Also mine looks like from the harness there is a Y that has the 4 pole and another connection that runs up and plugs into another harness in the area behind the tail light. Also how do you get the old harness unplugged with out breaking the harness it plugs into?

You can first try pulling the relays that you mentioned on your 2010 Nissan Pathfinder and replacing them to see if that fixes your problem. You can do so with the Curt Relay Kit # C57000 (some Nissan vehicles will require a 3rd blue relay like the one in the # C57000 kit).

If that fixes it then you are good to go. If not, then I recommend installing the Hopkins Plug-In Simple Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package # HM43575 which will simply replace your current 4-Way. You will uninstall your current 4-Way by releasing the clip on the connector and then pulling it apart. Some Dielectric Grease # 11755 will help to keep your connections protected and last longer.

If you are still experiencing problems after replacing this on your Pathfinder, and you know the issue is on your Pathfinder, then you will either want to inspect the wiring on your Pathfinder yourself or you will want to take it into an auto shop so they can check the wiring out themselves. To verify that the problem is on your Pathfinder you can test the pins on your trailer connector with the battery from your Pathfinder and make sure the functions work correctly.
