Recommended Bike Rack for Towing with Tear Trailer
Question:
I know manufacturers do no recommend mounting a bike rack to the back of a trailer but we really want to tow a rack on the back of our tear camper. Is there a specific rack that you would recommend for this application?

To mount a bike rack to the back of a trailer, you'll want to make sure the bike rack is rated for use with trailers and RVs. I've included a link to our RV and trailer-approved bike racks for you.
I recommend going with a bike rack like the Swagman XP - 4 Bike Rack for 2" Trailer Hitches, Item # S64940, which can be used with a hitch on the back of campers, RVs and trailers. This bike rack provides cushioning to prevent the bikes from swaying, and the rotating cradles accommodate alternative and women's bike frames. Swagman also makes a 2-bike rack, # S44FR, which is also approved for use with RVs and trailers. Both of these bike racks fit 2x2-inch trailer hitches.
If you don't already have a hitch, one option is our Ultra-Fab 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver for Trailer Frames, # UF35-946403. This hitch welds onto I-beam and C-channel trailer frames from 47-77 inches wide and is ideal for carrying a bike rack or cargo carrier. To determine if this will fit, you will need to measure the distance from the outside of one frame channel to the outside of the other. If this does not fit your frame, I'm also including a link to our other RV and camper hitches, so you can use the filters on the left side to determine a hitch that will work for you. Or, if you'd like to send me your trailer frame width, I'll be happy to make a recommendation.
Another option is to install a front-mounted hitch on your vehicle, such as the Draw-Tite hitch # 65071. You can use our fitguide to choose a hitch confirmed to fit your vehicle, or, if you'd like to send me your year/make/model, I can recommend a hitch for you.
I've attached some product review videos for you as well as a link to our bike racks approved for use with a trailer or motorhome.
