Accessing the Adjusting Wheel For Initial Brake Adjustment of Nev-R-Adjust Brakes # 23-468
Question:
I just tried adjusting one of the new Dexter Nev-R-Adjust brakes, but the adjustment arm that turns the adjusting wheel is in the way. I looked at the assembly I havent installed yet and tried using my adjustment tool to turn the wheel, but that arm is in the way. Your video doesnt show the adjustment arm, but it is right in front of the adjusting wheel. Any suggestions?

I went out into our warehouse and pulled a 10 inch Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly, part # 23-468, and started messing with it to see what it would take to be able to adjust it.
What ended up working for me was a very thin screwdriver with a flat head. I was able to catch the teeth of the gear by going in through the left hole and then angling the screwdriver slightly to the left and down to the point that the screwdriver catches the teeth of the gear. And then with a little bit of pressure I was able to turn the gear.
Another option that people use is to spin the gear before you install the hub, tightening up the brakes to the point of almost being adjusted, and then drive around with the trailer activating the brakes until the brakes automatically set themselves. As long as you take it easy until the brakes are set you should have no problem using this method also.
