Trailer Brake Lights Not Working After Brake Controller Install
Question:
Hi, I had a Curt Venturer Brake Controller installed on my 2001 Honda CR-V to tow a 13foot Scamp I recently purchased. With the exception of the brake lights, all other trailer lights work running, turn signals, back-up. The installer checked the controller wiring and all fuses look good. Any idea what might cause this? Im anxious to start using my camper and no one seems to know whats wrong. Help!

The first thing you will want to do is test the 7-way connector at the rear of the vehicle using a circuit tester like part # PTW2993. If the brake signal is reaching the connector, you have a bad ground and you will need to ensure the ground wire is attached to a bare metal surface free of corrosion. If the signal is not reaching the back of the connector, may have attached the stop light switch (red wire) from the Curt Venturer Trailer Brake Controller part # C74VV to the wrong circuit.
The correct stop light switch for your 2001 Honda CR-V is a green/white wire located behind the brake pedal. In order to ensure this is the correct wire, you will want to check this using a circuit tester such as part # PTW2993. Once attached to the wire, you will need to press the brake pedal to ensure you are only receiving power to that wire while the pedal is depressed.
