Weight Distribution Shank with the Most Amount of Drop for a 2-1/2 Inch Hitch on a 2014 Ram 2500
Question:
I have 2014 Ram 2500 SLT crew cab 4 wheel drive with 2 1/2inch receiver, its 25 1/2inch to top inside receiver. I would be hauling variety of trailers that could have 17inch to 21inch coupler height. Wondering if you could recommend shank

For a weight distribution shank that will offer the most drop and that fits a 2-1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver I recommend Equal-I-zer shank # EQ90-02-4900. It offers up to 6 inches of drop. This means that trailers with a coupler height of 17 inches will be off level by about 2 inches (the tongue weight will pull down the truck a little).
The only way to get more drop is to use a reducer sleeve and a shank for a 2 inch hitch. However, some vehicle/hitch manufacturers will provide a lower capacity if that is done or will not allow it at all. But if it works out for your 2014 Ram 2500 then you could use reducer sleeve # C45405 and a 2 inch shank such as # C17124 which has 9 to 10 inches of drop (depending on if the weight distribution system is trunnion bar or round) and is rated up to 1,500 pounds tongue weight.
