Weight Distribution System Recommendation for Setup Using System Rated Too High
Question:
Hi my sylverado 1500 2wd 2010 towes the trailer fine, with a 5.3 liter, but I get sway from passing trucks and large buses, I also get porpoising when I travel on rough roads, havent experienced to much roll over yet. I have a Blue Ox weight distribution hitch, and love it, my truck sits level, but I would like to take the pressure off of my rear axle. I had the tongue weighed with everything ready to go camping, it came out to around 950lbs, I have the hitch rated for 1500 lbs, I didnt want the one rated for 1000 lbs, just a little close, especially if I decided to add anything to the trailer in the future. What type of rear axle upgrade do you recommend.

Your towing issues are actually related to the weight distribution system you have more than anything. What you have is actually rated a bit too high since the # BXW1500 has a tongue weight range of 1,000 lbs to 1,500 lbs and you are a little under that at 950 lbs. That's why you have a rougher ride that wants to porpoise.
Ideally you'd have a system where your tongue weight falls right in the middle of like the part # RP66084 which has a tongue weight range of 600 to 1,200 lbs and features only sway control that works to fight sway before it starts. Of all the possible solutions available this is the only thing that will address your issues.
Suspension enhancement for the trailer or truck really isn't going to make a noticeable difference.
