Why Does Curt Require Use of Stabilizing Strap with Trailer Hitch on 2013 Hyundai Sonata

Question:

Hi, All my research led me to believe the Curt brand makes a superior product in all respects, however I see only the Curt brand requires a stabilizing strap with non-towable loads. Why would this be? Thanks.

Curt Class I and Class II Hitches, such as the # C11025 that is confirmed to fit your 2013 Hyundai Sonata, do require you to use a stabilizing strap # 18050 to secure non-trailer loads like bike racks and cargo carriers. This is not necessarily an indication of the hitch's strength as compared to other manufacturers, but simply an extra precaution that Curt takes to further stabilize hitch-mounted accessories and protect the hitch and vehicle. As you mentioned, Curt is well known for the reliability and durability of their products.

If you do not wish to use a stabilizing strap with your hitch-mounted accessories, I recommend going with the Draw-Tite Class I Sport Frame Receiver Hitch # 24965, as they do not have this same requirement. This hitch is also confirmed to fit your Sonata.

I have attached the installation details for both of these trailer hitches as well as a demonstration video on the Curt stabilizing strap so you can see exactly how it is used.
